In order to attain top levels of organizational efficiency, amongst other measures, a joint-venture was stipulated with the U.S. based Covanta Energy, a leading firm in the field of waste and biomass fuelled power plants.

The facility in Fusina, near the Porto Marghera industrial estate, covers an area of approximately 120.000 square metres, and processes household garbage of all types.
Treatment capacity of waste is in the range of 51500 tons annually, which is converted into electric power of 2 Mwh/h, in part sold to Grid.
Waste combustion takes place in a mobile-grated furnace which generates electric power through a turbo-alternator via the expansion of steam taking place in the heat recovery boiler integrated in the furnace.
Furthermore, the plant also features a combustion gas purification line conceived on the basis of the most modern technologies that allow for compliance with atmospheric emission limits set by legislation in force.
The ownership of the plant belongs to VESTA; Ecoprogetto Venezia is the company handling waste-treatment operations in Venice.
